Old School LucasArts Games
Matthew recently shared with me two amazing games. In the process of trying to figure out how to play them, because of compatability issues, I stumbled upon something amazing: I don't need the CD to play them! This is a quick setup guide to allow you to also share in the fun. Follow the instructions and enjoy. Some of the files big, so give yourself time to download them (it's worth it).
First, you need to download the game files. I've zipped them.
- 1) Download Day Of The Tentacle (154MB) and Full Throttle (289MB). This will take some time.
- 2) Once downloaded, unzip each of them (I use 7-zip, but anything works).
- 3) Save each unzipped folder somewhere (I saved mine in my "C:\" folder, but anywhere works as long as you can find it later).
Next, you need to download and install the program which will actually play the games.
- 4) Download ScummVM. I chose the latest release (1.0.0) and used the Windows Installer.
- 5) Install like normal.
Before you can play the games, you need to add each game to the play list
- 6) Open ScummVM
- 7) Choose "Add Game" and navigate to DOTT.CD, open it. Press choose (you can't see the game file, but the next screen will confirm it found the .exe game file.
- 8) The next screen lets you change what's displayed and alter other settings. I did NOT change anything and clicked "OK". You should now see the game listed to play.
- 9) Repeat 7 & 8, but go to THROTTLE.CD instead
- 10) Optional: I went to "Options" from the main screen and checked full screen mode because I like it BIG!
Game time
- 11) Select the game you want to play ("Play" starts a new game. "Load" brings up all saved games).
- 12) To save/quit a game during play hit F5 to bring up the menue (the games originally used F1 - it took me a litle bit of keyboard banging to figure this out)
- 13) From now on, when you start up ScummVM the games will be listed and ready to play.
That's it. Assuming you were able to follow, you should be living la vida loca. If you want to know how to beat each game, you're on your own.
